Matt’s Story

// October 1st, 2017 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

With a passionate, uplifting style reminiscent of Barry Manilow and Michael Buble, Matt Barber delivers songs we know and love with a sincere, meaningful approach. His passion for his music comes through in every song. Matt has performed over 300 concerts per year around the world for more than a decade.

Matt has had had the honor of performing at notable venues, including The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Andy Williams’ Moon River Restaurant in Branson, as well as the Illinois State Fair, to name a few.

Matt has performed around the world, performing at festivals, wineries, resorts, colleges, country clubs and retirement communities.

Born in Peoria, IL, Matt took a deep interest in singing at the age of 10, listening to his father Mark, a radio announcer on 101.3 KUUL-FM in Davenport, IA. Matt enjoyed singing in choirs, church, and was exposed to big band/jazz era from both of his grandmothers at an early age. He began performing solo and recording at age 16, and it was then that he knew he wanted to pursue his musical career.

During high school, Matt began to hewn his craft by performing at various venues such as coffee houses, Borders Book Stores, and other venues around in the Midwest. He performed music written and arranged by musician friend and drummer David Saelens. From attending school during the day and performing on a regular basis at night, he planned his first major US Tour coast to coast. In 2005, during his senior year of High School, he released “Let’s Keep In Touch,” a collection of original music by friend David Saelens, which Matt dedicated to his High School graduating class.

Since 2005, Matt has released five albums, “Romancing Nashville (2007)”, “Love Notes From Paradise (2009),” “It’s Been A Merry Christmas (2009),” and “The Masterpiece Collection (2011),” and “More Today Than Yesterday (2015),” with arrangements by Alan McPike and recorded in Nashville, TN by Daniel Dennis. Matt has recorded and toured with good friend, Day Kelly, former trumpet player for Ray Charles and also recorded an original song by Day Kelly, “It’s Been A Merry Christmas” available on iTunes.

Matt’s show, “The Matt Barber Experience” consists of “fun, upbeat, and relaxing music from the heart,” providing an extensive repertoire of music, making for a fun, relaxing, and interesting experience for a romantic evening with that special person, or a fun night which you can bring your whole family to enjoy.

Future plans include touring abroad and bringing his shows to younger audiences including colleges. Matt is currently accepting offers from major record labels.

“If I can help people forget their problems, feel uplifted, and bring them some happiness, then I’ve done my job,” says Matt.

In 2015, Matt celebrated his 10 year anniversary of performing by releasing this amazing new album featuring classics from his shows performed nationally since 2005.

“More Today Than Yesterday” features fresh arrangements of classic songs that have been special to Matt and part of his shows over the past 10+ years, made famous by artists including Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, Chris Montez, Andy Williams, Jack Jones, Nat King Cole, and more.

As a tribute to Matt’s dad, Mark who passed away June 27, 2013, Matt recorded one of his dad’s favorite songs “Route 66.”  The album features a bonus track with 10 minutes of recordings of Mark from his radio days on 103.7 KUUL-FM as well as one of my Matt’s early recordings, “You Are My Friends,” an original song by friend David Saelens.

The album includes a guest appearance by Paul Von Adam (former trumpeter for Andy Williams), Gary Dooms (former sax player for Mickey Gilley), and Denny Yeary (bass singer for the Blackwoods)
